Bloodied fight victim leads to false shooting report

LA JARA — The appearance of a bloodied fight victim Sunday morning led to a call reporting that someone had been shot, but investigation proved otherwise, according to Police Chief Jerry Lujan.

The disagreement took place at a private residence in La Jara at 9:57 a.m. Sept. 22 between Michael Padilla, 41, Alamosa, and a man in his 50s, Lujan reported.

The victim went to a nearby business and someone there called police dispatch saying a shooting had taken place.

Padilla was booked into the Conejos County Jail on charges of second-degree assault, menacing, violation of a protection order and possession of a weapon by a previous offender.
