LA JARA— Saturday afternoon, a back and forth game resulted in a 21-7 Centauri victory over the Colorado Springs Christian Lions (CSC).
 The first round for Centauri was a defensive struggle for both teams that saw 28 points in total offense and eleven turnovers with the Falcons ending the day +1 in the turnover differential.
The Lions are running team that produce a ground game out of the spread offense trying to find room in the spaces for leading rusher Gabe Danzik. They also looked to toss bubble screens to receivers in twin and trip formations as an alternate supplement to the run.
The Falcons were ready for all of it keeping the Lions in check nearly the whole game. Each offense took turns trying to figure out the defenses in a field position chess match.
Late in the first the Falcons had driven into Colorado Springs territory and a fourth down looked like the end of the drive. Nate Anderson found Sam Anderson for an 11-yard reception to keep the drive alive and got Centauri in the red zone. 5 plays later it was Taj Cornum punching it in for 6 with the extra point giving Centauri a 7-point advantage.
The second quarter was spent fighting for field position until the final minutes of the half the Lions pulled out a misdirection play for a score. Danzik got the handoff and tossed it back to Jordan Greager who had his eyes downfield.
The Falcons didn’t look to be fooled they simply let CSC’s Grant Baker get too far up field without an escort. Baker caught the ball and streaked the rest of the way to even things up for the Lions at 7 all going into half time.
When Centauri’s first drive of the second half sputtered out it resulted in a punt that pinned the Lions at their own 5-yard line. The Falcons defense came out with visions of a safety dancing in their heads, what they got was much better.
On the Lions first play, the pass went directly to Centauri’s Teddy Sowards who stomached it and went in for the go ahead score.
Four drives later Centauri’s defense came up big again when Bennie Chacon took a break from racking up tackles to recover a fumble deep in Lions territory.
Nate Anderson would take it from there with three touches spanning 28 yards for the Falcons’ third and final touchdown.
The Falcons closed out the game with stout defensive play and clock control on the ground.
A look around the Valley:
That same Saturday Monte Vista went north to Evergreen, where they upset the sixth ranked Clear Creek Gold Diggers 39-34.
 Valley football fans can now whet their appetite for a high stakes rematch between the two Valley rivals Saturday Nov. 11th at 1 p.m.
Friday night the Sargent Farmers earned a resounding win over visiting Gilpin County.
West Grand defeated Norwood 24-14, so the Farmers will be facing the West Grand Mustangs this weekend.
