ALAMOSA — The fact that Alamosa and Centauri now reside in two different classes, 3A and 2A respectively, does little to dampen the rivalry between the two wrestling squads.
The Mean Moose took last Thursday’s home dual with Centauri by a score of 57-16.
Alamosa has been on the warpath, with powerful performances at every dual/invite they attend most recently dominating things at 4A Pueblo South’s home tournament. Centauri has also been running on all cylinders with a bevy of first place finishes in their own right.
The only difference from past meetings is Alamosa and Centauri will no longer competing directly for titles that didn’t make Thursday’s dual any less entertaining.
Alamosa took no prisoners in the lighter weights ripping off four straight pins in the to take an early 24-0 lead. At 106 pounds Alamosa’s Davion Chavez took care of Mario Lopez in 1:15 seconds to make it 6-0.  Alamosa senior Elijah De La Cerda followed suit in the 113 weight class, finishing off his opponent Andrew Ross in 1:40 seconds.
At 120 pounds it was Kason Smith against Centauri’s Zeb Sandoval. Smith finished things at 1:38 with a fall.
That led to 3A’s top ranked 126 pound wrestler Joe Chavez’s meeting with Centauri’s Jeremy Coombs. The meeting was likely a familiar match as both boys are seniors and Chavez wrestled for Centauri just two years ago. Chavez would collect the pin at one minute sixteen seconds.
Colton Liddell would keep the shut-out going for Alamosa, outscoring opponent Jordan Martin 8-1 for a decision victory, combined with the forfeit to Tyler Kenison the Mean Moose held a 33-0 lead.
In the 145 pound class Zach Martin faced Hunter Smith of Alamosa. Down 2-1 at the start of the third period Martin would turn things around with an escape and a take down to take a 4-3 decision. Martin’s decision win put the Falcons on the board trailing 33-3.
At 152 pounds Kolten Hillis registered a second period pin on Centauri’s Zach Buhr to make it 39-3 in Alamosa’s favor.
The Falcons would then utilize the middle-weights to close some distance.
 Zach Sandoval would take a decision over Alamosa’s Andres Mondragon by a score of 6-3, followed by a third period pin by Centauri’s Byron Shawcroft on Brenden Madril and finally a major decision awarded to Daniel Chavez who outpaced Alamosa junior Brooks Anderson to a 10-0 score. The run would add 13 points to the Falcon’s score to have them trailing 39-16.
Alamosa juniors Ezekial Rangel and Austin Trujillo got the Moose back on track with first and second period pins respectively. Rangel finished off opponent Jownes Archuleta in 57 seconds while Trujillo got both of Remi Lucero’s shoulder on the mat in 3:09.
The final 6 points came from what could have been a very telling match for both sides as it would have featured number one in 2A Bennie Chacon against 3A’s second ranked Logan Thompson. Instead the Falcon forfeit to Thompson finalized the score at 57-16 for a Moose team win.
