Centauri girls sixth, boys 17th at state meet

Centauri High School sent both of its cross country teams to the Class 2A State Meet on Saturday, Oct. 30, at the Norris Penrose Event Center.

The CHS girls team placed sixth with 150 points, and the Falcons were 17th in the boys meet with 255.

“They honestly did really well,” said Centauri coach Joseph Hughes. “They didn’t quite get the times they wanted but they pushed themselves hard. They were giving themselves their all.”

Leading the Lady Falcons was Jocelyn Jarvies who finished 27th in 22 minutes and 38.90 seconds. Next for Centauri was Kaia Skadberg who was 34th in a time of 23:00.60.

The rest of the Lady Falcons’ scoring came from Tayte Hostetter who was 48th in 23:27.60, and Hannah Guymon who was 74th in 24:29.20.

The remaining Centauri girls were McKenna Guymon who was 75th in 24:37.10, and Tayden Montoya who was 113th in 27:23.60.

For the Falcon boys, Mason Sowards had the best placing as he was 52nd in 18:46.80. The other Centauri scorers included Ren Canty who was 63rd in 19:15.70, Carson Bagwell who was 95th in 20:25.90, and Estevan Vega who was 97th in 20:27.70.

Also running for the Falcons were Troy Sowards who was 105th in 20:51.80, and Tyrel Hostetter who was 119th in 21:39.60.

Both of the Falcons’ teams have a bright future as all return for next year.

“I get them all back next year,” Hughes said.

Jarvies especially has a bright future as she is only a freshman this year.

“She has some good years coming up,” Hughes said.

Del Norte was represented by one runner in the boys race as Riley Orr placed 34th in 18:23.20.

Lake County won the 2A girls championship with 48 points, followed by Colorado Springs Christian with 69. Buena Vista was third with 77, followed by Heritage Christian with 127, and Lyons with 131.
