Centauri SkillsUSA Career Conference well attended, another in the works

LA JARA —The Centauri Skills USA Club brought in Kayleen McCade on Thursday, Jan. 30.
She is a general contractor and host of Rescue Renovation, a DIY Network television show, her show she is called.
She spoke to Centauri's 8-12 grades, as well as Skills USA clubs from Antonito, Monte Vista and Sanford.
Business and industry from around the area met at Centauri High School Thursday for the first annual SkillsUSA Career Conference, organized by students, Chance Smith and McKay Russell with the help of all SkillsUSA members and a generous grant from Lowe’s.
The career conference was made up of a career fair with 30 business and industry partners as well as a variety of workshops that students were able to learn career-ready skills in areas of communication, interviewing, resume building, customer service and job applications.
It was well-received by both students and business partners.
The success of this year’s conference has already yielded plans for this conference to become an annual event.
