Centauri splits with Bayfield

BAYFIELD— The Centauri Falcons shook up the Intermountain League on Saturday by defeating the Bayfield Wolverines in the first game of a double header, 4-0.
Bayfield recovered and came back with a vengeance to win the second game, 11-1.
In the first game, Bayfield fell behind early and couldn’t come back as Centauri took the lead on a sacrifice in the first inning.
Martin Garcia earned the win for Centauri. He allowed two hits and zero runs over four innings, striking out five.
Brandon Buhr threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen. Buhr recorded the last nine outs to earn the save for Centauri.
Jake Brandon took the loss for the Wolverines. He surrendered four runs on five hits over four innings, striking out six.
Brandon went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Bayfield Wolverines Varsity in hits. Bayfield tore up the base paths, as two players stole at least two bases. Hayden Farmer led the way with two.
Zach Martin led Centauri with three hits in three at bats.

In the second matchup Centauri opened up scoring in the first inning, when Tristen Crowther grounded out, scoring Zach Martin.
However, that would be the only time the Falcons would find their way across home plate. Bayfield scored four runs in the third inning. Hayden Farmer, Alec Demko, and Rhett Hoover each drove in runs during the inning.
Michael Gettman was the winning pitcher for Bayfield; he surrendered one run on three hits over six innings, striking out six.
Martin took the loss for Centauri, surrendering four runs on three hits over two innings, striking out three.
The Wolverines saw the ball well Saturday, racking up eight hits in the game.
Max McGhehey, Kaleb Heck and Hub Brandon each managed multiple hits. Brandon, Heck, and McGhehey each collected two hits to lead the team. Bayfield players stole 12 bases during the game as three players stole more than one. McGhehey led the way with five. The Wolverines didn’t commit a single error in the field. Demko had the most chances in the field with six.
