Center woman killed in head-on collision on La Veta Pass

CSP was advised at 9:30 p.m. of a two car head-on collision on U.S. Highway 160 near milepost 261, east of Ft. Garland.

FORT GARLAND — A Center woman was killed and her young passenger badly hurt on La Veta Pass Monday, Aug. 5, according to the Colorado State Patrol (CSP).
 CSP was advised at 9:30 p.m. of a two car head-on collision on U.S. Highway 160 near milepost 261, east of Ft. Garland.
A silver 2017 Hyundai Elantra driven by Jack Holker, 65, of Lindon, Utah, was eastbound when his vehicle went into the westbound lane of travel and collided with a black 2007 Ford Focus, driven by Sharon Duran, 60, of Center.
Duran was pronounced dead at the scene.  
An 8-year-old passenger in the Ford Focus was transported with life threatening injuries.  
Holker was transported with serious injuries. Seatbelts were used by the occupants in both vehicles.
The crash is still under investigation, but fatigued driving is being considered as a factor.
