County surplus offered

CONEJOS — The Board of County Commissioners recently learned of a new way to both make money and get rid of surplus vehicles, materials and other items.
Human Resources Director Connie Ricci advised the commissioners that an online auction could do the job and handle all online transfers and payments. The enrollment fee is $1,000 and the auction site asks a 10.5 percent commission on all sales.
Pointing to the fact that the county has had an old ambulance on the lot for a while, Ricci said it could be put up for sale, along with electronics, office furniture and other unused items.
“This opens the opportunity for selling surplus,” said Ricci, and anyone can bid on it. The site is open to the public.
There is also the possibility of purchasing something the county need at a fraction of the retail cost.
The auction site, publicsurplus.com does all the work, makes disclosures and necessary descriptions and items can be offered once a quarter or daily — whenever necessary.
A visit to the site showed used generators, utility tractors, salvage vehicles, computers and even a lot of more than 100 blue jeans.
