Deputies arrest man who had warrant for homicide

COSTILLA COUNTY — A man with a warrant for murder out of Denver was apprehended Saturday night, July 2, by Costilla County Sheriff's Office deputies.

At approximately 10 p.m. on July 2, Costilla County Sheriff's Office deputies were dispatched to a suspicious vehicle call on County Road J.8.

An alert citizen reported a suspicious vehicle near a residence. A Costilla County deputy contacted the man in the suspicious car.

The deputy attempted to identify the man, but he gave the deputy several alias before he fled in the vehicle. A chase ensued with two deputies in pursuit.

The driver of the car stopped on County Rd L.7, exited the car and began running. Deputies quickly apprehended the man, and he was placed into custody.

The deputies learned the man was Richard Montoya, who had an active warrant out of Denver for homicide.

Montoya is currently being held at the Costilla County Jail.
