Falcons fly high at Monte Vista's Last Chance meet

Centauri’s Melissa Wilson brings the baton through the first turn at
the Monte Vista Last Chance meet Saturday, May 11. In relay
action, the Lady Falcons’ quartets took third in the 4x100m (56.13
seconds), third in the 4x2 (2:00.47), second in the 4x8 (10:33.79) and
third in the 800 medley (2:14.28)—earning a combined 26 of the team’s
second-place 95 points, which trailed only Intermountain League rivals
Pagosa Springs, who had 96 in the final standings. CHS’ boys, meanwhile,
accumulated 83 points and also finished second to PSHS (106).
Qualifiers will be at the 2019 CHSAA Class 3A
State Championships, May 16-18, up in Lakewood.

Sowards placed fourth with a best clearance height of 4’9”, earning
five of the Lady Falcons’ second-place 95 points.  Only Intermountain
League rivals Pagosa Springs totaled more—but just one more—with their
96.  CHS’ boys, meanwhile, amassed 83 points and also finished second
in the team standings, trailing only PSHS (106). Up next, for the
athletes fortunate to qualify, will be the 2019 CHSAA Class 3A State
Championships, May 16-18, up in Lakewood.
