Falcons shut out in double- header losses to Cortez

CORTEZ— Saturday was a long day for the Centauri Falcons baseball team, as the team fell to Montezuma-Cortez, 6-0 and 10-0.
In the second game of a double header in Cortez, the hosts scored four runs in the fourth inning. The big inning for Montezuma-Cortez came thanks to two doubles, a groundout and a wild pitch.
A single by Nate Anderson in the first inning was a positive for Centauri.
Conston earned the win for Montezuma-Cortez. He went five innings, giving up zero runs, one hit, and striking out three. Tristen Crowther took the loss for the Falcons. He tossed three innings, allowing five runs, five hits, striking out one, and walking one.
Anderson went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Centauri in hits.
Montezuma-Cortez collected eight hits. Pena and Conston each collected multiple hits for Montezuma-Cortez. Montezuma-Cortez was sure-handed and didn’t commit a single error.
Centauri watched the game slip away early and couldn’t recover in a 6-0 loss to Montezuma-Cortez in the opener Saturday. Montezuma-Cortez scored on a stolen base, a double by Conston, a single by Mathews, and a single by Bear in the second inning.

One bright spot for Centauri was a single by Martin Garcia in the fourth inning.
Engel earned the win for Montezuma-Cortez. He threw seven innings, surrendering zero runs, four hits, striking out eight, and walking one. Nate Anderson took the loss for the Falcons. He pitched three innings, surrendering five runs, six hits, striking out two, and walking one.
Alero Barr, Darrin Rodriguez, Diego Fernandez, and Garcia each managed one hit to lead Centauri.
