Flooding hits Costilla County

FORT GARLAND — Retired State Patrol Trooper John Mestas reported early Tuesday that Mountain Home Reservoir is under water.
"Anyone planning to camp and fish needs to bring a houseboat," he quipped.
Sangre de Cristo Creek is already flowing out of its bank in places and Mestas feels there will soon be a lot of serious localized flooding in the county.
The snowmelt runoff is just beginning and the mountains still hold a tremendous amount of snow, said Mestas, a longtime resident who said he has never seen the likes of it in the past.
