Human remains found near Huerfano, Costilla line

SAN LUIS — Human remains found by some young hunters Saturday, Sept. 9, are as yet unidentified and were reportedly there from three to six months, according to reports from Huerfano County.
The remains were found near the Costilla County line and the find was determined to be a Costilla County case, so Costilla Sheriff’s Sgt. Paul Quintana assisted the Huerfano County Sheriff’s Office in recovering the unidentified remains.
Two men from Costilla County are still on the missing list, but there is no official connection with either one.
Sgt. Quintana is in charge of the investigation, with assistance from the Colorado Bureau of Investigation and the El Paso County Coroner, who says identification may take a few months, according to Undersheriff Ricky Rodriguez.
Investigation is continuing.
