Incidents in Capulin area keep sheriff busy-Gunshot

Two hospitalized with gunshot wounds


CONEJOS COUNTY — A press release late Monday afternoon, July 15, indicated that at approximately 5:31p.m. the Alamosa Regional Communications Center received multiple 9-11 calls regarding a shooting in the 8000 block of Highway 15 at Capulin with multiple victims.
Deputies from the Conejos County Sheriff’s Office as well as officers from numerous other agencies responded to the area.
Initial investigation determined two people were shot and both have been transported to area hospitals in the San Luis Valley.
One victim is in critical condition and the other is listed as serious.
One was reportedly shot in the throat, the other in the shoulder and back.
Law enforcement was able to identify two potential suspects and after an intensive search, ttook them into custody.
"This investigation is in its early stages and no further information regarding the victims, suspects or motive will be released at this time," said Conejos County Sheriff Garth Crowther, who would like to inform the public that there is no further threat to the community.

"This crime is not a reflection of the many good hard working people who live in the area and is an isolated incident," said the sheriff, who expressed his thoughts and prayers to the victims and reminded the community to let the justice system run its course for the suspects and not perpetuate the violence by acting out with further violence.
