Local results set up some contests for November

CONEJOS — With a total of 2,271 ballots cast, local races were the focus of most voters as their mail ballots were opened and those from outlying areas were brought in.


Following are unofficial results as
of 9 p.m. Tuesday:
Unopposed on the democrat primary ballot, State Rep. Donald Valdez drew 1,023 confidence votes.
Nathan Ruybal, current county clerk seeking to hold his appointed position, drew 1,034 confidence votes.


The county level race between republican incumbent Mitchell Jarvies
and democrat challenger Steve A. Cordova saw Jarvies walking away with 1,047 votes to 838 for Cordova. This will be a race to watch in November.

Unopposed for treasurer, Republican Mack Crowther pulled in 1,076 confidence votes while Democrat Naomi Martinez Keyes drew 1,027 to continue as county assessor.


Sheriff's race:
The race for sheriff, with two GOP candidates and one Democrat, saw a tight tally in the republican column as Garth Crowther drew 570 votes or 51.08 percent of the voters to Marvin Thomas’ 546 or 48.92 percent. Democrat Jacob D. Ortiz drew the confidence of 799 voters.

Martin Reynolds, unopposed on the Democrat ticket, drew 1,036 votes for surveyor, while the race between Democrat Leslie Salazar and Republican incumbent Richard A. Martin saw Martin holding on by 1,006 votes to Salazar’s 933.


Governor
The race for governor was a busy place, with democrat Cary Kennedy drawing 322 votes, Jared Polis, 333, current Lt. Gov. Donna Lynne, 97 and Mike Johnston, 279.
On the GOP side, Walker Stapleton drew 397 votes, Greg Lopez, 208, Doug Robinson, 170 and Victor Mitchell, 298.
Secretary of State


Democrat Jena Griswold drew 830 votes for secretary of state while Republican Wayne Williams drew 942.

State Treasurer
On the Democratic side, Dave Young garnered 674 votes while Bernard Douthit drew 207.
A three-way race on the Republican side saw Justin Everett with 376 votes, Polly Lawrence with 185 and Brian Watson with 405.


Attorney General
On the Democratic ticket, Joe Salazar drew 670 votes to 368 for Phil Weiser. Republican George
Brauchler was unopposed and took in 924 votes.


Federal level
For U.S. Rep. HD3, Democrat Diane Mitsch Bush pulled in 508 votes to 262 for Karl Hanlon and
122 for Ann Menconi. Running unopposed on the Republican ticket, incumbent Scott R. Tipton drew 966 votes.
