Los Sauces suspect’s history of arrests

ALAMOSA — Earlier this week, law enforcement officials discovered the remains of three people on properties in the rural town of Los Sauces in Conejos County.  During a press conference, they released the name of a suspect in the case, a 26-year-old man named Adre “Psycho” Baroz, who already had an outstanding arrest warrant issued in his name for homicide.

Officials, who did not know of his whereabouts at the time, described Mr. Baroz as being armed and dangerous and warned citizens to not approach if he was seen but to instead contact local law enforcement immediately.  They also requested the assistance of the public in locating the suspect if anyone had any information.

At 3 pm the following afternoon, less than 36 hours after the press conference, Mr. Baroz was found in a motel room in Gallup, New Mexico where he was then taken into custody by ATF agents out of Colorado Springs assisting in the search.

This is not Adre Baroz’s first run-in with the law.  A search of his background reveals that, since he was a young man, Baroz has been arrested and convicted of numerous misdemeanors and felonies.

In January of 2014, when he was 19 years old. Baroz was arrested for parole violation in Alamosa.

Several months later, he was arrested and pled guilty to 3rd-degree assault and sentenced to spend 9 months in jail.  What followed over the next year was a series of 4 different assault charges, all of which he pled guilty to committing, all of which brought more jail time, and some of which was spent at the San Luis Valley Community Corrections.

In August of 2015, Baroz escaped from jail and was not picked up until November when he was arrested in Pueblo and charged with theft of property valued less than $100. However, in January of 2016, Pueblo law enforcement returned Baroz to Alamosa where the District Attorney’s office brought charges for his escape along with a 2nd-degree assault of a peace officer.  The date of the assault is the same as the date of his escape, suggesting the two crimes may have been related.  Ultimately, Baroz pled guilty to committing both crimes and was sentenced by Judge Michael Gonzales to three years in prison and mandatory parole of two years.

Roughly a year and half passed before Baroz was prosecuted again, this time pleading guilty to smuggling and possession of contraband.

For the next two years, the record is absent of any additional charges being filed until 2019 when Baroz was arrested for a series of offenses, including possession of controlled substance, 3rd-degree assault, destroying evidence.  In late summer of that year, he was arrested for and charged with crimes related to drugging and sexually assaulting a victim, but charges were suddenly dismissed somewhat late in the process by the DA’s office.

As recently as August and September of 2020, Baroz was arrested for charges related to possession of drugs, assault and possession of a firearm by a previous offender.

Ironically, Baroz was scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday, the same day and at almost the same time that law enforcement officials from Conejos and Alamosa Counties, along with the Colorado Bureau of Investigation announced that he was a suspect in the human remains found in Los Sauces.

For the past six years, Adre Baroz had multiple encounters with the Alamosa Police Department and Sheriff’s Department, yet it was only in the past year that the nature of the charges – more related to drugs, one related to weapons – changed.

It’s only with more information, including whatever may be learned from Baroz directly, will the evolution of this 26-year-old man be known in greater detail.
