Mary Lou Millsap

Longtime San Luis Valley resident Mary Lou Millsap, 89, died Sept. 7, 2022, at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Alamosa.

Mary Lou was born on April 24, 1933, in Fort Morgan, Colo., the daughter of Roscoe Leroy Cowen and Bessie Thelma (Adams) Cowen. She married Victor John Millsop on Dec. 18, 1955, at the First United Methodist Church in Alamosa. He preceded her in death in 1963.

Mary Lou worked for the Department of Social Services in both Alamosa County and Rio Grande counties for a total of 35 years combined. During this time, she also worked as a bartender for the B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge in the evenings. In her early years, she liked to bowl and enjoyed bowling in league. She also enjoyed reading. One of Mary Lou’s favorite things to do was to go for drives, and she especially liked driving while it was raining.

She is survived by her children Dale Millsap, Vicki (Greg) Pace of Monte Vista, Colo., and Leroy Millsap of Alamosa, Colo.; her grandchildren Amy, Lissa, Charity, Joshua (Sandy), and Matthew (Michaela); her great-grandchildren Calista, Emily, Rayna, Lee, Dakota, Landon, and Lexi; her brother-in-law Marvin Millsap of Paducah, Kentucky; as well as numerous extended family and friends.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her sister Betty Ferrell.

Cremation was chosen and a Graveside Service will be held 10 a.m., Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, at the San Luis Valley Cemetery.
