McDonald draws 40 years for sex assault on child


SAN LUIS — A Costilla County man will spend 40 years in prison for child sexual assault.
He was charged with 28 counts of sexual assault, all relating to incidents involving children.
According to the Costilla County Sheriff, he entered a plea agreement Monday, Oct. 1, to the sex case and was sentenced by the court.
On May 4, 2017, Costilla County Sheriff's deputies, along with the other agencies conducted a thorough investigation involving Zanis McDonald, 44.
McDonald was also held on other unrelated charges.
The investigation led to McDonald being charged with 28 charges to include: three counts of sexual assault on a child, two counts of sexual assault on a child (threatening retaliation), five counts of sexual assault on a child (use of force), three counts of sexual assault on a child (pattern of abuse), three counts of sexual assault on a child (position of trust younger than 15), three counts of sexual assault (position of trust pattern of abuse), three counts of aggravated incest, three counts of child abuse, one count of assault in the second degree (strangulation) and two counts of reckless endangerment. McDonaldwas held in lieu of a $250,000 bond.
