Medical Hall of Fame class of 2019 induction May 17

Dr. Robert Kelly

SAN LUIS VALLEY—  The Medical Hall of Fame Committee for the San Luis Valley is happy to announce the class of 2019 inductees. The class is well represented by people dedicated to providing healthcare services in the SLV for over more than 20 years and are all remarkable people who gave of themselves to their community above and beyond their call of duty.
John Haskin, MD, practiced general medicine and surgery and lived in the Center area beginning in the 1950s. He dedicated 32 years of medical service to the SLV, and the Center Elementary School was renamed Haskin Elementary in honor of his service.
Robert Kelly, MD, developed a great rapport with his colleagues, continually educating nurses and his staff around him in his years of service as the Valley’s only pediatrician for many years.  He retired in 2005 from a very busy practice of delivering babies and taking care of local families.
Connie Poole, LPN, retired in 2011 after 34 years of nursing in several different organizations, including Alamosa Hospital’s ER and Valley-Wide Health Systems. She was a passionate nurse, always looking out for others and continues to be involved in her community.
Rosalina Velasquez, RN, MSN, is best known as the supervising nurse instructor at the former SLV Area Vocational School, now as Trinidad State Jr. College, Valley Campus. She instructed many students and was admired by students as well as her peers and physicians.
Roger Vigil is a legacy at SLV Health as the director of building services, or facilities. He retired in 1999 and passed away in 2010. He served the hospital for over 40 years as a dedicated and experienced leader, including the construction of the helipad.
Please join the committee and family members in honoring this fine class of inductees at 5 p.m. on Friday, May 17 at the SLVH Conference Center, 1921 Main Street, Alamosa. For questions, please contact 719-587-5707.
