COSTILLA COUNTY — A Pueblo man died in a two-vehicle collision Monday morning on U.S. Highway 160, La Veta Pass, according to the Colorado State Patrol.
The area is just north of Muleshoe at mile marker 277 in Costilla County.
Colorado Department of Transportation cameras in the area show winter conditions on the road with snow and slush.
Reports say a silver 2004 Honda Element driven by Blake Noonan, 47, was westbound toward Alamosa at approximately 10:30 a.m. Jan. 21 when the driver of the Honda lost control in a right hand curve and the car rotated into the oncoming lane and collided with the front of an eastbound orange 2019 Peterbilt truck-tractor with its right side.  The Honda came to rest on the westbound shoulder and the semi-truck came to rest off the eastbound side of the road. Noonan was pronounced dead on scene.
The driver of the Peterbilt semi-truck was uninjured.
Firefighters responding to the scene found the Honda fully engulfed in flames.
Excessive speed for the conditions is considered the primary factor in this crash, which is still under investigation.
