COSTILLA COUNTY — One person was seriously injured in a multiple-vehicle crash on Feb. 21 on Highway 160 at Mile Post 279, according to Colorado State Patrol. CSP believes alcohol may have been a factor in the crash.

At approximately 4:15 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 21, a 2011 Dodge Dakota driven by Jason Ahrens, of Pueblo West, was traveling eastbound on Highway 160.

A 2017 GMC Sierra pulling a 2008 Pontiac G6 on a car dolly, driven by Wilber Garcia-Huallparuca, of Farmington, N.M., was traveling westbound on Highway 160.

A 2015 Nissan Sentra driven by Larry Edwards, of Harris, Texas, was traveling eastbound Highway 160.

The Dodge Dakota drove over the centerline and collided with the Pontiac G6 that was being pulled by the GMC Sierra, CSP reported. The Dodge Dakota then rotated clockwise and went into the lane of the Toyota 4-Runner. The driver of the Toyota 4-Runner attempted to veer to the left to avoid the Dodge Dakota and collided its right front-end with the left rear-end of the Dodge Dakota.

The Dodge Dakota continued to rotate clockwise, and the Nissan Sentra collided with the driver’s side of the Dodge Dakota, CSP reported. The GMC continued westbound while rotating clockwise going off the right side of the roadway and rolling once.

The driver of the Dodge Dakota sustained serious injuries and was transported to San Luis Valley Health Regional Medical Center in Alamosa, by ambulance, CSP reported.

Alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor to the crash, CSP reported. The crash is still under investigation.
