CONEJOS COUNTY — Colorado State Patrol is investigating a fatal two-vehicle crash that occurred April 2 on Colorado Highway 285 at the intersection of Colorado Highway 15. Four others suffered minor to serious injuries.

At approximately 8:02 p.m. on Saturday, a 2008 blue Honda Fit was traveling northbound on Colorado Highway 285 when a 1989 blue Volkswagen Cabriolet who was traveling southbound attempted to make a left turn onto Conejos County Road X, CSP reported.

The Honda struck the Volkswagen on its front passenger side in the middle of the northbound lane as the Volkswagen attempted to make the left turn. After impact, the Honda rotated clockwise and continued north for a short distance and came to rest on the northbound lane.

The Volkswagen rotated counterclockwise after impact continuing in a northeast direction and colliding with the northbound shoulder guard rail.

After colliding with the guard rail, the Volkswagen rotated clockwise and also came to rest in the northbound lane.

The front passenger of the Volkswagen suffered fatal injuries and succumbed to their injuries at the scene. The driver and right-rear passenger of the Volkswagen suffered serious injuries along with moderate injuries to a third passenger. The driver of the Honda who was traveling alone received minor injuries.

The crash is still under investigation by the Colorado State Patrol Vehicular Crimes Unit.
