Rollover crash claims La Jara woman, 31

Cayce Hogue

LA JARA — A 31-year-old La Jara woman is dead following a single vehicle rollover in Alamosa County early Dec. 16.
The Colorado State Patrol was notified at 1:14 a.m. of a crash on Colo. Highway 368, Alamosa County Road 14S between mileposts 11 and 12.
A 2011 green Jeep Wrangler driven by Cayce Hogue was reportedly westbound when it started to rotate in a counter-clockwise direction.
The Jeep traveled off the left side of the road before striking a fence and rolling 2 ¾ times before coming to rest in a field on its driver’s side.
Hogue, who was not wearing a seat-belt, was ejected during the crash and was pronounced deceased on the scene.
A male passenger, Derrick Heersink, 29, also of La Jara, was wearing a seat-belt and received serious injuries.
He was transported to San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa.
Alcohol and speed are suspected factors in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
The Colorado State Patrol asks motorists to always, always, buckle up. "Seat belts are engineered to protect you and those you hold dear and must be properly worn."
