LA JARA — During this pandemic turmoil, social distancing and isolation are common terms used daily and quarantine has turned some family’s lives upside down.

Members of the Conejos County Rotary Club found a way to bridge the social distance between partners, friends and family members by preparing Quarantine/Coronavirus care packages for families who find themselves in quarantine during this pandemic. Members filled 10 boxes and delivered them to the Conejos County Public Health department that will see to their distribution.

“There’s everything from cereal, shampoo, toothpaste, facemasks and nonperishable items in these care packages. “ We felt the need to help families that are having trouble obtaining essential items while in isolation.” said Rotarian Steve Cordova.

Club members felt that Public Health had a great pulse reading on what’s taking place in the county and partnered with them to help reach those who need the care package the most. Testing positive can be a frightening experience and this is a way to reach out and brighten someone’s day during these challenging times.

“Most malls are closed and we can’t splurge on new shoes, so we challenge community members to use that money to purchase and prepare your own Quarantine/Coronavirus care package and deliver it to your local public health office” said Rotarian Julie Gomez-Nuanes.
