Sanford clears Del Norte in league match

DEL NORTE — The second game of a rivalry series was played on Saturday with Sanford on the road in Del Norte for a league volleyball meeting. Sanford took the away match by a score of 3-2 evening the league series 1-1. Del Norte (9-5) entered the weekend meeting on a hot streak taking 8 of their last 9 games, one of those coming from a 3-1 victory over Sanford on Sept. 14. Sanford’s (7-4) entered the contest on a three-game run likely eager for a little revenge.
The two valley teams went back and forth evenly splitting sets in sequence. Del Norte took sets two and four by scores of 25-19 and 25-15. Sanford won sets one and three by scores 25-16 and 25-21 and the all-important fifth set by the slimmest of margins, 15-13.
Both squads have a short turnaround with matches on Tuesday. Del Norte will look to get back to their winning ways on Tuesday, Oct. 8 when they host Sargent at 4 p.m. Sanford has a hill to climb when they go on the road to meet the No. 3 team in 3A Volleyball, Alamosa.
