CONEJOS — Garth Crowther was re-elected as Sheriff of Conejos County.

Crowther has spent 45 years in law enforcement, mainly in the San Luis Valley. He grew up in Sanford, worked in La Jara and Sanford police departments, and worked 29 years with the Colorado State Patrol.

“I couldn't ask for better co-workers, town, and outstanding county commissioners. They make you shine," Crowther said.

Crowther and the Conejos Police Department help with school fundraisers and work with members of the community to create a neighborhood watch.

Crowther feels strongly that a positive, preventative approach to law enforcement creates better relationships and stronger connections with the community.

Conejos County Sheriff's Department has an open-door policy and a committee made up of community members meets every three months to discuss questions and concerns.

Conejos County Sheriff's Department recently joined a national organization called Faith and Blue, started in 2020. Its mission is to build a stronger, safer community by collaborating and doing activities with faith-based organizations. The Faith and Blue organization are a non-denomination.

Crowther said, “This is another way to connect with the community."
