Sheriff warns about new scam

CONEJOS — It has been brought to the Conejos County Sheriff’s Office attention that there is yet another phone scam going around.

This time the caller is calling citizens, claiming they are a Conejos County Sheriff’s Office Employee (no longer employed with the Conejos Sheriff’s Office) advising them they have missed Jury Duty and they must pay a $900 fine.

Conejos County Sheriff Garth Crowther once again remind citizens the Conejos County Sheriff’s Office and/or its representatives would never call and request financial transactions of any kind.
"Never arrange to make payment and/or don’t ever give anyone your personal information over the telephone such as bank account information, social security number or any other information that could be potentially damaging to you as an individual."

If you receive a phone call that you suspect is a scam and want to speak with a Conejos County Sheriff Deputy, please call the Colorado State Patrol Dispatch Center in Alamosa at 719-589-5807.
