CONEJOS — Springtime scams abound Conejos County. Citizens have been getting scam calls on their land lines and cell phones, causing the sheriff to become concerned.
Sheriff Howard Galvez, Jr. said citizens have been receiving calls from local business numbers asking if they have stayed in a hotel or resort or stating they have won a cruise.
According to Galvez, "They ask for you by name or ask you a question and wait for you to say 'yes.' If you say 'yes' to them, they can start a credit card in your name."
The sheriff advises, if anyone receives a call from a local number or a local business, including the Conejos County Sheriff’s Office, "and you are not sure if it is a legitimate call or if the call seems suspicious, hang up immediately, and never give out personal information."
