Two patriotic images mark Veterans Boulevard

Silhouettes of the flag raising on Mt. Suribachi, Iwo Jima, and a soldier mourning comrades lost in battle, created by artist and veteran Pete Perea are in place at the Veterans Boulevard intersection near the Conejos County Courthouse. The Conejos Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) helped with creating bases and setting the impressive displays. One is a flagpole which is held aloft by a silhouette of the famed flag raising and a sign which says, "Freedom Isn't Free;" the other is a soldier kneeling at a cross and holding a flagpole with the official POW-MIA flag waving in the wind and the statement "All Gave Some, Some Gave All."
